Controverial Religious Art exhibit Comes to Brisbane, Australia

AUSTRALIA - A controversial religious art exhibition will open in Brisbane for the first time in a decade later this month, led by an installation that examines Islamic faith and prayer. Selected works from the 60th Blake Prize competition – the Archibalds for religious works – are bound for the Art Museum at the Queensland University of Technology in a display designed to encourage debate about belief systems and the arts. Curator Vanessa Van Ooyen said the centrepiece of the show was Khaled Sabsabi's Naqshbandi Greenacre Engagement, a video piece that engages the viewer in an Islamic Sufi ritual. [link]
